In 1213, after the Norman Conquest, the wooded land we now know as Minchinhampton Common was confiscated and given to l`Abbaye aux Dames in Caen. Some 800 years later Christophe (a Norman himself) and business partner Nick continue to add to this fascinating anglo/french story in The Old Lodge.

Set in the heart of Minchinhampton Common with unrivalled views of the Cotswolds, this 400 year old hunting lodge is the perfect place to escape the rush. Enjoy quality, locally sourced food served in the restaurant, the bar area, one of our smaller dining rooms or al fresco in our spacious garden. The stunning restaurant accommodates parties of up to 85 people seated and has floor to ceiling windows that look directly onto Minchinhampton Common. After your meal you can sink into a large leather chair in our oak panelled room and relax with a glass of port or a good cup of coffee. Once fully restored and revived, you're ideally placed to set out and explore the common, with its rare orchids, blue butterflies and wide open vistas or wander into Minchinhampton or Nailsworth for a mooch around the shops.

2012

A great year ahead at the Old Lodge - our fabulous romantic wedding venue now has a license to hold the ceremony as well. The "Farm to Fork" campaign, which has seen more of our produce sourced locally, has now been enhanced with us joining the "Back Coastal Fishermen" campaign where we sign up to take part of the catch landed at Brixham that would otherwise be discarded at sea - this not only gives us daily access to unusual fish for our specials board, but helps the environment and coastal fishermen to boot! We only buy from British coastal day boats (not ocean going fleets) and are proud of our commitment.

We are now open to the public for breakfas,t which is usually cooked and served by Nick and Christophe. Again, we have sourced the best and freshest ingredients to bring you some great dishes from 8am, such as English muffin with smoked salmon and scrambled eggs or our full English with Nailsworth sausages made from Gloucester Old Spot pigs. Excellent coffee, great atmosphere and a fantastic venue: book on-line or just turn up and, if walking with the dogs, bring them in as well!

April marks our 5th year at the Old Lodge and the business continues to service the local community as a great hostelry, venue for celebrations, a travellers' rest and, less well known, as a place to hold a wake where Nick will sympathetically organise a befitting reception.
In July we have the honour of hosting the Stroud Life Awards, celebrating the best of the local community, and this year will see us open for the first time for Christmas Day lunch and a New Years Eve party.

Look out for Christophe's redecoration and refurbishment including a new roof for the marquee.

Golfing - we have negotiated reduced green fees for our guests with the golf course that, literally, surrounds the Old Lodge (the club house is 30 meters away!). For a look at the course, go to:- http://old.minchinhamptongolfclub.co.uk/
