Here at Food Club we appreciate the support we get from local people and want to support local projects and businesses in return.

In an average week, over 2,500 people enjoy meals in Food Club venues.
Over 100 local people are employed by Food Club. All of our team are offered accredited training.
We use local services and buy products from local businesses as much as we can.

However, it’s not just about wanting to support local people and businesses. Food Club also tries to use local produce where possible because we believe:
• It’s better for the environment as the food does not travel far to reach our kitchens.
• It’s also better for animal welfare as animals do not have to travel long distances and become tired and distressed before they’re slaughtered.
• Food that travels less is fresher and therefore tastes better.
Perhaps the most important reason though is that by using local producers we know where our food comes from and how it has been produced which helps us create meals which taste great!

Where does our food and drink come from?

Cotswold Food Club is always looking out for local produce and producers for our menus. Pork from Daglingworth, chicken from Newent and venison from the woods around Amberley and all our eggs are free range from the local village of Sherston.

We’re also looking really close to home as Nick explains: ‘Next to the Old Fleece, Christophe and I are restoring an historic orchard and are looking for a partner who will press the apples for juice in the Autumn. We are also inviting partners to keep bees, pigs and sheep on the land and we will be setting aside areas for a kitchen garden”

Meat: Our meat is supplied by a local butcher - Country Quality Meat in Nailsworth. They source their meat from local farms, such as pork from Daglinworth and chicken from Newent, and it is slaughtered locally too. As well as being good for animal welfare as animals are not transported very far, this means food miles are kept to a minimum. http://www.nailsworthchamberoftrade.co.uk/countryqm.html

Fish: We source trout from both Ruskin Mill and Bibury Trout Farm.

Bread and cakes: Most of the bread served in Food Club venues comes from J. Hall & Son Bakers in Woodchester. http://www.hallsqualitybakers.co.uk/

Fruit and Vegetables: Most of our fruit and vegetables come from local suppliers, such as Zenith Nurseries in Evesham and Stancombe Beech Farm in Bisley.

Eggs: All eggs used by Food Club venues are from Sherston Free Range Eggs which is based at Home Farm near Tetbury. This is a small, family run business where hens can choose to go in or outdoors and have fresh food and water available at all times.

Alcohol: We use a variety of local suppliers including Heritage Wines in Wickwar, Bath Ales and Stroud Brewery
